connie

who is getting on these days, she must be 3 months old by now...

i went round to G's place yesterday to do the final mix of her tune that he recorded for me on the landlord's piano a few months back, east end boy for only a few more months before him & his wife move down south, just a little trip down the canal and we'll probably be making music together a fair bit while he's this close...

i found it hard work listening to the quality of the sound that intently for that long, not something i do very often, a different focus from my usual listening... and lovely to hear that piece sound so beautiful (even if i say so myself) the tone of the piano as picked up by those mic's... hmmmm

on the day we recorded it once i'd played through the tune enough times and we had a good enough version somewhere amongst the takes i improvised a short tune, being as we had the mics all set up... yesterday after listening for so long to connie's tune it was with a real emotional shift that we turned our attention to the improvisation... an emotional shift for me i mean, in listening to it... such a different place harmonically, made me want to be recording many piano pieces (which is of course the plan) and building up many different colours, finding out what emotions they evoke...

felt a little like a chemist, or a witch, mixing up some potent brew... or indeed the character in perfume, the collector & combiner of aromatic essences...

good relationship with G growing as well, the dynamic between performer and producer, as well as between writing partners which is what we may become...

anyway must get dressed and head off for monday's work mountain...
