stranded on the ickneild way

brother D & M here and we're about to eat dinner so briefly...

went out on the bike up the icknield way today, part of it that the sustrans network has made into a cycle path, the icknield way itself is apparently 104 miles long and claims to be the oldest road on britain, pretty close to the ridgeway, which i've pictured having a WWF style wrestling match with the icknield way, leaping from the ropes and proclaiming itself oldest road in britain don't you dare challenge me...

anyway, very cold it was today, got to where i wanted to get to, lovely to be out & cycling,

got a puncture at the furthest point out, just as i was turning home, spent way too long by the side of the track struggling with cold fingers to fix it...

assisted by a passing cyclist (on foot) who helped me get the outer tire off, assisted also by abdullah ibrahim & ian nagoski on my ipod shuffle... just couldn't find the puncture... no water near to find the bubbles and i couldn't hear it the way i've heard them in the past...

spirits dropping by the shivering minute i gave in & phoned my dad, he was heading to oxford to pick up D & M so i walked back along the icknield way, coming to a largish road close to the A34 for them to find me on their way back from oxford...

passed another cyclist fixing a puncture who claimed it was so cold the glue wouldn't dry...?

the car was so beautiful and warm when they arrived, my little bike fitting into the boot...

all fixed now since i've been home,

going out to see M tonight, old friend...

x
